Diamond Group are delighted to be 2017 sponsors of the Derek Brown Squash Handicap.
The Derek Brown Squash Handicap tournament held over the weekend of 5th/6th February 2017.
About the Tournament
The is the second year the Derek Brown Squash Handicap tournament has been held, the event organised by Police Officer, Jason Sweeney, in memory of his close friend Derek Brown who died of cancer in 2013. The tournament also helps to raise funds for the Bobby Robson Foundation - last year over £900 was raised and it is expected the same amount will be raised this year.
Jason explained “When I was young I admit to going off the rails a little, Derek took me under his wing and suggested I come along to play squash at the club he attended”. Derek told Jason that playing squash would help get rid of some of his pent up frustrations, it certainly did and Jason has never looked back since. Jason said “Derek was a lovely guy, a great sportsman and so full of life. He loved playing squash and took it very seriously but he was also full of fun and had a great sense of humour”. After Derek died, Jason decided to hold a squash tournament in his memory and also to raise funds. This year the tournament was sponsored by the Diamond Group.
